Realise e-Research through Virtual Research Environments

چکیده

Scientists today are tackling increasingly difficult problems. More and more advanced technologies are required to support research activities. With the development of the information technology it is now possible to perform research activities within virtual research environments (VRE). In this paper we describe a Sakaibased VRE system aiming at providing an improved platform for supporting scientists. Besides benefits from the advanced e-Learning framework, Sakai, of its collaboration tools like chat and discussion, our VRE system extends the Sakai framework by providing additional functionalities for integration of existing web components, JSR 168 portlets, and managing documents.
